Scientific Name
Philodendron ‘Grizzly’
Common Name
Philodendron
Origin
Derived from Philodendron species native to tropical regions of Central and South America.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Can tolerate moderate light levels, but growth may slow. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water
Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out between waterings. Keep the soil lightly moist but not soggy. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.
Humidity
Thrives in moderate to high humidity but will tolerate average household levels. Increased humidity will support healthier, larger leaves.
Soil
Use a well-draining, airy mix. A chunky aroid mix with bark, perlite, and compost works well to retain moisture while allowing airflow to the roots.
Food
Feed every 2–3 waters during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.
Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 18–28°C. Avoid temperatures below 15°C and protect from cold drafts.
Pet-safe
Toxic if ingested, so keep out of reach of pets and children.
Sprouts Top Tips
If you want larger, more dramatic leaves, give it something to climb – a moss pole or support will encourage more mature growth.
Extras
This Philodendron can be grown as a climber or allowed to trail slightly, depending on how you style it.
Did You Know?
Philodendrons are natural climbers in the wild, using aerial roots to attach themselves to trees as they grow towards the light.
